HIRAX Frontman KATON DE PENA Featuring on “The making of the LEMMY Statue” Documentary!

Last August, the artist Travis Moore unveiled his statue to honour the passing of late MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy at Hollywood’s Rainbow Bar And Grill – the singer and bassist’s favourite haunt. A short documentary “Live to Win” has been posted online, where HIRAX’s Katon De Pena, Anne de Pena, Travis Moore and Mikey Maglieri tell us how the statue came to be from the idea to it’s conception.

Watch it here: https://youtu.be/veQuc7QavTs

The life-size bronze sculpture was commissioned after fans and friends contributed to a fundraising campaign following Lemmy’s death in December.

HIRAX is an American thrash metal band beginning in 1984 under the leadership of vocalist Katon W. De Pena (founding member).  The band was an early example of the thrash metal, speed metal and crossover.  HIRAX is based in Los Angeles but, at that time, because of the weak metal scene in their area, they spent most of their time playing in San Francisco along with Slayer, Metallica, and Exodus, who were all part of the exciting new metal emerging from the Bay area. They released a four-song demo in 1984.  This demo was widely circulated and the band became known and respected worldwide through the metal tape trading underground.  Since then HIRAX has released  5 full length studio albums and multiple EPs and has toured the world including many festivals in South America, Europe, Japan, Scandinavia, and the U.S.A.

Fates Warning-Theories of Flight

1. From the Rooftops
2. Seven Stars
3. SOS
4. The Light and Shade of Things
5. White Flag
6. Like Stars Our Eyes Have Seen
7. The Ghosts of Home
8. Theories of Flight

Band that has never carried the white flag. It’s quite difficult to find a band nowadays whose songs don’t  sound like recycled works from the past trying to attract more and more audience.

Fates  Warning is a band with 32 years of musical experience that always continues to build up, refine its style and make progress. With every album this band shows that they are more and more musically matured, creating amazing pieces of art based on their knowledge and experience and the ephemerality  of life.

Three years after the album ”Darkness in the different  light”,  they triumphantly return with ”Theories of Flight”, an album that features eight very complex songs which represent a combination of very dynamic, heavy and in some moments  a little bit dark melodies with amazing emotional vocals.

The man responsible  for preserving the unique and recognizable mucial style,  the ”mastermind” of the band, is Jim Matheos , the main songwriter and the only remaining founding member. The lineup is the same as on the previous album : Ray Adler – vocal, Jim Matheos – guitar, Frank Aresti– guitar, Joe Vera -bass guitar and Bob Jarzombek – drums.

The record opens with a relaxing melody and continues with Matheos’s killer riffs and Ray’s powerful voice in ”From the Rooftops”. The next song sounds like an ”updated”  (and in some way  ”metalized” ) part from the masterpiece ”Parallels”.  The musical journey continues with ”S.O.S.”,  another brick in the wall which confirms the guys’ technical skills, and the holy trinity, the highlights of the album: ”The light and shade of things” – a track colored with epical choruses and melancholy; ”White Flag” , as the most metal song on the album which gives us very simple advice on how to survive in this cruel world and how to deal with people – don’t let them know what can hurt you; and ”Like Our Stars Have Seen” – a very modern and dramatic progressive song with killer instrumental  sections and the singer’s flawless contribution.

If you look at the lyrics you can notice that they are almost filled with some nostalgia and longing for innocent times. The Ghosts of home is a ten-and-a-half-minute  piece of art which evokes in the listener an eruption of sounds and emotion, familiarizing them with Matheos’s childhood and the issue of never having a real home. He found his  ”trail to home”  with the instrumental title track.

Exceeding  everyone’s expectations ,  once more,  they made a classical release. Theories of Flight” represents a great definition of a progressive album of any kind.

The metal band MorphiuM was formed in 2005, their music style is difficult to catalogue since it is inspired by a wide variety of musical influences which go from the most extreme metal to the more melodious and melancholic metal.

They record their first album “La Era de la Decadencia” in 2008 .
In 2011 MorphiuM signed with Roadrunner Records‘ affiliate in Spain, Kaiowas Records. Global/Mass Records launched their debut album. The first LP was described by the media as one of the best albums of the year receiving a valuation of 9.5 out of 10.

That same year MorphiuM initiate their European and American tour. This enabled them to share the stage with bands like Megadeth, Fear Factory, Overkill, Moonspell, Kataklysm, Destruction, Brujeria, All Shall Perish, Tristania, Dark Funeral… in well known festivals like Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in Mexico.

In 2012 they continue to tour around Spain to later in the year start the composition phase of their second album.

Back in Europe they continue to tour in venues and festivals like Ripollet Rock Festival.

“The Blackout” is released at the beginning of 2016, this is their third and latest album, an LP which contains 12 tracks produced in Italy by Eugenio Fresco, mixed by Marco Barusso and mastered by Marco Dagostino.

The launch of the LP is accompanied by a new music video of the single “What lies behind words” that quickly surpasses 40.000 views during the first few days and other thousands of reproductions in streaming from digital platforms.

The presentation of the new material and the promotional acts takes them to tour through China in June and book dates for Spain, some still to be published, which will be followed by international tours which are being announced these days in their up to date social sites.

After being praised by specialized media with all their prior work, this album sung in english is a big step towards MorphiuM‘s career. The Blackout is giving a lot to talk about, some of the specialised media have already named it one of the best releases of 2016.

¨A 10 out of 10 album, I can’t find words to deny this. A masterpiece”

Live Report: Wolf’s Hunger strikes hard, with the almighty wrath!

Blaqutio Cojones/Putrid Blood/Wolf’s Hunger

Dom Omladine, Belgrade

Wolf’s Hunger held a concert in the club of Dom Omladine, and this concert was a promotion of their latest new album “Bezte Zivi Vracaju se Mrtvi“.Well the one think I can say about this concert was, that it had some energy and the atmosphere was really great. The other two bands have had a great perfomancies, the rage and anger was all over the place in the club.

The first band to perform was Serbian punk rock band Blanquito Cojones. When they entered the stage the fans supported the band like there was thousands  and thousands of people there, well the club was almost full, they began the show with the song”Alkohol“. This band is quite interesting, thier perfomance is always unigue, the interaction with fans is like the fans are friends with them personally. They gave the beer and other alcohol drinks to all the fans in the front of the stage, as a introduction to the song “Vinjakolada“, of course the alcohol that was given to the crowd made the atmosphere even more crazier and positive and to get even more crazier they brought on the stage some other punk musicians to play with them, the crowd went in trance completely. They sang many of thier songs like “Deca iz bloka“, “Bubasvaba” and “Rakija” which on the third one second vocalist Dusko gave more alcohol to the audience again. So the time went on, and the band had to leave the stage.

Blanguito Cojones

The second band to play was Serbian thrash-hardcore black metal band Putrid Blood. Well in my opinion the band that crushed with the sound was this band, the club was shaking. The crowd screamed after each song, because the band has some kickass and badass sound to their perfomance. One of the song they played and crowd reacted very positive to them was “Silovanje”, the song is a strong one, and the crowd gone mad on it, also the second song that brought out the most attention was “Pokvaren Do Srzi“, the crowd headbanged, there were some moshpits, it was a real good atmosphere. The fans of the band were enjoying every second of their concert. The third song that brouhgt out the most attention was “Vođa“,crowd singed some songs about the politics, but that was not important everyone had a blast. The band got off the stage and left the crowd and fans in disbelief in a good way.

Finnaly the stars of  the night and headliners Wolf’s Hunger Serbian thrash black metal band arrived at the stage to promote their latesr album. Sadly the larger crowd left the club before the show and the loyal fans and friends stayed to the end, it’s sad because the band is really great, and desirves more, so they played in almost empty club.So they began the vocalist Caslav has some amazing screams coming from his throat. The first song to play was one from their latest album called “Bez’te Zivi Vracaju se Mrtvi” as the album itself is called. The crowd reacted very good to the song, and then there were other songs from the new album like “U Vatri Sazdan” and “Gvozdeni Puk” and they played other songs from their album also, but in my opinion could sound better, but they didn’t as on the album. They played some other older songs too like “Great Serbia” and “Krv Moja Srpska“.This band needed that anger and passion like they had on the album, they had it but, they needed more, so that their songs could sound more agressive and raw as their are. The last song they played was a song of the Serbian punk metal band Ritam Nereda called “Heroj” with vocalist of the Serbian band Mortal Combat- Milos Krickovic, and then the fans got on the stage to sing some song and then the band got off the stage, and the show ended, some people were satisfied some very not, but  the thing is you can not satisfy everyone, that’s the thing about the great bands you can love them or hate them. This band is going to be big, but they need more that raw power on thier live shows, great concert with some amazing atmosphere.

Vomit of doom-Magnus Cruelty

1.Totality (intro)
2.Black metal invasion
3.No divine
4.Eternal enemy
5. Captor of light (interlude)
6.Shadow of tyranny
7.Pest of tomorrow
8.Sodoma conquest
9.Magnus cruelty (outro)

Argentinian black/thrash monster is here with a new studio effort. This EP contains 9 blackened anthems which are striking direct at all senses. When you see the artwork of the CD, you instantly get the idea what do you have in front of you.

Everything is done by black/thrash tradition and standards. This is an EP, but it has intro, interlude and outro, which gives us a feeling that we`re listening a full length album. Songs are short and direct, and that is the best thing about this release.

There is that perfect balance, that many bands from this genre are lacking. Production is raw and dirty, just like in the 80s. To me, it sounds similar to Mayhem`s Deathcrush.

It has a really clear Possessed, early Bathory and early Mayhem influences, but in a great way. Songs are a little bit generic, but it still sounds good and interesting enough for the fans of aforementioned bands. Only not so good thing about this release is that songs are almost the same.

There aren`t many changes in tempo and atmosphere, and that`s why sometimes it sounds flat and uninspired. This EP is for the people who like simple music without compromise.

New years concert by Brkovi will be held in 30th December in Belgrade

Приказује се 3012-brkovi-fb-cover-01 clean.png

Instead of helding a concert in 1th December at the New Year, the band is going to wait for a 2017, with their fans day earlier. This concert of the Croatian punk-rock turbo folk band was canceled, because of the tehnical problems, so the concert will not be held in 1th January of the 2017, instead it will be in 30th December 2016 at Magacin Depo.

In their carrer of 12 years,Brkovi successfully created unigue combination of genres of pank-rock, hard-rock, folk, heavy metal and reggae, which is wittily packaged into the  melodic unit, which themeslef’s they call “turbopankfolkwellness spa”. With all of this, the band is a true pank-rock band. In the band they don’t use there real names, only nicknames, they offer they albums for free and the lyrics of the songs are offensive and sexist. They are different from other bands, because they replace a typical social and political theme with love lyrics typical for Serbian folk and pop music.

Brkovi performed all  across the region and in Europe too, but this year they promoted their sixth album “Torzo Dade Topica” in front of thousands of people, they are already working on the new songs, which their fans  are waiting impatiently.:

Here is one of there music videos, enjoy:

MEGADETH’s David Ellefson And ANTHRAX’s Frank Bello in Studio Recording New ALTITUDES & ATTITUDE Material!

ALTITUDES & ATTITUDE – the project featuring MEGADETH bassist and EMP LABEL GROUP‘s President David Ellefson and ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello – is currently in the studio in Hollywood, California recording material for their new album, with the producer Jay Ruston (ANTHRAX, STEEL PANTHER, STONE SOUR).

David Ellefson commented: “What started out as simple bass ideas quickly developed into some really great songs together. Our fans would probably never suspect that a couple of metal bass players would have songs like these inside of us. It’s exciting to write melody with diversity while still pushing the limits of lead-bass playing. Frank’s singing, and both of us playing guitars and other instruments, gave us a whole new dimension for creative opportunities.”

Frank Bello added: “We thought it would be cool to let fans hear something they wouldn’t expect from us — which is what ALTITUDES & ATTITUDE is”.

Regarding how ALTITUDES & ATTITUDE came together, Ellefson told recently Guitar World: “We were doing bass clinics for our endorsement of Hartke bass amplification a few years back when the ‘Big Four’ were playing shows together. I just said to Frank, ‘We should really write some of our own material we can play for these clinics. Something unique just for us.’ So at Bass Player Live! at the Key Club in Hollywood, Frank got us talking to ANTHRAX producer Jay Ruston, who is also a bass player, and he got excited to get on board to record some songs for us. We agreed to do just a few songs we could release in EP format. This would make the workload easier with all of our schedules and even allow us to continue releasing more songs moving forward as well. Jay brought in Jeff Friedl on drums and even suggested Gus G. to play the solos I wanted to have on the track ‘Here Again’.”
