In anticipation of this week’s world premiere at Hot Docs, Canadian International Documentary Festival, BangerTV has posted the first of three exclusive, behind-the-scenes looks at the forthcoming virtual reality documentary “WELCOME TOWACKEN,” the first fully 360° virtual reality music festival documentary, produced by Canada’s BANGER FILMS (Metal Evolution, Iron Maiden: Flight 666) and SECRET LOCATION.
In this clip, cameras follow Banger’s Sam Dunn and co-director Marty Flanagan as they attempt a day of shooting in Wacken’s infamous “Metal Market” with fans Lee and Chrissy, a married couple who traveled from New Zealand to Germany for their first-ever Wacken experience.
Regarding the challenges of filming in 360, Sam Dunn is seen explaining, “It’s different, filming in VR. Slower. It’s a challenge, with the mud. And people are very interested in the VR rig. It’s like an alien landed. Everyone stops to look at the alien.”
”WELCOME TO WACKEN” will premiere April 28th in Toronto at Hot Docs, Canadian International Documentary Festival as part of the free DocX programme (April 28 to May 7). It will be available on most major VR platforms following the festival.

All bands, that wish to participate in the Metal Battle, must read the following rules and guidelines. Bands who send in an application automatically agree to the rules and terms.
Your band doesn’t have a deal and isn’t about to sign to a label in the near future.
Your band can easily play a 25 minute set consisting of your own songs. (No Covers). Full set performance time is 25 mins.
PA, lighting, and sound engineer will be provided for all bands.
Backline arrangements TBA.
The bands must bring their own instruments such as guitars, bass, drum breakables, keyboards and effect pedals and may also bring and use their own guitar amps.
To keep the changeover times as short as possible, bands with left handed drummers will play as first or last band. All bands have to follow the directions given by the promoters or stage manager.
Semi playback is not allowed. All bands must play live. Background orchestrations are ok as long as all vocals, guitars and bass are live. Intros / interludes are also ok.
Jury of respected music industry folk will decide the winners each night.
If a band overruns its allotted performance-time, then the band-members should be aware of the fact that in this case their sound will be faded out. The running order for the concert will be released a few days before the event takes place.
Travel for the winning band to go to Germany is at their own expense and accommodations at the festival will be in the form of camping in the VIP area.
Full professional back line will be provided for performance.
Enlsaved is in the studieo and they are recording they new album. It has been , already over two years, since the release album “In Times“, They are now recording their fourteenth, full-length release, yet-untitled. This album is going to be both wilder and progressive with melodic horizons, the band, which celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary last year, are always is in the mood to surprise their fans. The recording is taking place at Duper & Solslottet Studios in Bergen at April, and it will be mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios. The album is promesing, and it is going to be original and refreshing , containg some surprising new elements.
Ivar Bjørnson guitarist and mastermind stated this:
“It is absolutely fantastic to be in the studio with these new songs,”. “So many doors were opened with ‘In Times’ and the times that followed; for us as a band, for me as a composer and I guess for us all on a personal level. I have never worked this hard to put together music for an album before, and that intensity continues into the studio where everybody is giving their everything, every hour of every day. We are a tighter unit than ever before, which is obvious sonically. The concept conjured by myself and old war-brother Grutle is the strongest we have worked with. Finally, I am proud that we have taken more risks than ever before, and one in particular — and it is yielding awesome results. What does that mean? Stay tuned to find out!”
The cover and artwork is once again being created by renowned designer and painter Truls Espedal.

Lodi, a small borough of Bergen County, New Jersey, is just over two square miles. There’s not much to suggest that the small village would be the birthplace of a world famous, blood-soaked form of music known as horror punk. Legendary acts The Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig all have their origins in Lodi, and something monstrous indeed lurks there. The poster child and originator of the genre, himself, has once again unleashed an evil noise on an unsuspecting world: Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein’s first release, Abominator, by his eponymous band, Doyle.
Released on Doyle’s own label, Monsterman Records, Abominator is a sonically thick and lyrically evil slab of metal that finds Doyle expanding in a logical progression upon the genre of music he helped create. Doyle’s first band, the infamous Glenn Danzig-fronted Misfits, helped create the genre of speed/thrash metal with their last album, 1983’s Earth AD/Wolf’s Blood– in fact the record has been revered as one of the blueprints for the genre by many of its most respected players, as evidenced by countless groups covering the album’s songs, not the least of which being Metallica. Abominator is not the sound of some punk guitarist gone metal- it’s the roaring return of one of extreme metal’s original architects to his blood-splattered drawing board.
So how did this Jersey devil and crew wind up with a Dixie-bred howler? “After I had written all this music, I realized I had to get someone to sing this stuff- once I’m done recording guitars, all I can see is myself just playing that riff, ya know? That’s my thing, not lyrics and singing,” Doyle says, with typically blunt candor. “I’ve known Alex for a while, so I called him up, then sent him a bunch of the tunes. Two days later he sent me back ‘Mark of the Beast’, just like it is on the record. I said ‘That’s exactly what I want!’, and the rest is history. I only wrote the word ‘abominator’- all the rest of that stuff is Alex. He’s just crazy, man”.
It’s a match made in hell. But no metal band would be complete without a complete animal behind the drum kit. Brandon “The Crusher” Pertzborn (of Black Flag) delivers all the aggression and insanity necessary (and then some) with his exquisite musicality and showmanship.
So what can fans expect at a Doyle show?
“To get fucking pummeled, man. And then go home and ask themselves ‘What the fuck just happened to me?!?’, hahaha…” he replies with a laugh that this time, no joke about it, actually sounds evil. Loud, aggressive, and technically proficient, Doyle and crew are set to show the world how true horror metal sounds today.
So crank up Abominator until your speakers blow, check out Doyle on tour, and let the beatings begin!
Montreal-based AKURION have begun recording their long-awaited debut album. Vocalist Mike DiSalvo (ex-Cryptopsy) had this to say about the recording process…
Statment of the band:
“All the base tracks from the four of us are gonna be recorded live with only some overdubs added after the fact. We wanted a real earthy and deep sound from the inception of this project and we feel that jamming the tunes live in our room together, we will be able to capture the best feel and performance of these songs.”
Mike DiSalvo: Vocals (Coma Cluster Void/Fireside Sessions/ex-Cryptopsy/ex-Mabbus/ex-Infestation)
Rob Milley: Guitars (Neuraxis/Phobocosm(live)/Fireside Sessions/Torn Within)
Oli Pinard: Bass (Cryptopsy/Neuraxis/Vengeful)
Tommy McKinnon: Drums (Conflux/Ages/Empire De Mu/ex-Neuraxis/ex-Augury)
The band entered the studio on April 14th with Alex Hebert (Ages, Empire De Mu). The album will be mixed by John Strieder of Magma Studios and will feature the great metal voices of Lord Worm(ex-Cryptopsy), Luc Lemay (Gorguts), and Jean-Marie Leblanc (Vengeful) as guest appearances. Look for the album to be released by the end of the year.
Here is drum recording clip of the drummer Tommy McKinnon:
Drummer Tommy McKinnon comment’s on the studio session:
“This session was the pinnacle point of four years of exploration and preparation. Looking back I cannot believe how hard it was actually. Yet the level of preparedness that I was able to reach, largely thanks to my band mates, made the pressure and pain empower my playing.
We nailed the whole album in about five hours, including breaks and listening between takes. So, essentially, we did one or two takes per song except for a couple of songs that proved to be harder, such as “Souvenir Gardens”, an almost seven minute long epic tune with a relentless mixture of complex grooves and aggressive precision.
I totally put all I had into this session. I took practicing and nutrition to a new science leading up to it. This recording encompasses everything I’ve done as a drummer over the past 19 years.
In the process of writing the parts, I always kept in mind that they had to be recorded in one take. Every song is animated with the continuous flow that this recording technique renders possible. I feel confident that these recordings are as good as it gets. From the creative point of view, I wanted to compose drums that recalled a grass roots technical death metal style. After all, Gene Hogland has always been one of my greatest influences. The audiophile will surely uncover many textural layers, a wide stylistic range and memorable beats to pick out… Metalheads, this work is my present to you! All hails!”
Most importantly: Keep it real! Bang your head!!!
The story behind AKURION is a rather simple one. It’s a tale of four like minded, well established musicians from the Montreal underground metal scene that have forged a likely bond through the one great equalizer; the love of crafting tunes out of thin air while developing crushing musical flashes in time. Extremely heavy material is their natural calling; alas it is not the sole purpose behind AKURION. The projects’ dark overtones, textures and sinister melodies are a major influence behind this endeavor. Many layers await the patient listener.
