This was something that only a small community of people in NYC were able to share with us, back in the day.

Ever since the release of their debut album ”Lugburz”(1995) Summoning have proven themselves to be the true guardians of Middle Earth! What started out as a project deeply rooted in traditional black metal took an epic turn in the following years – evergreens like ”Dol Guldur” (1996) and”Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame” (2001) bear witness to a continuously refined soundscape. Five years after ”Old Mornings Dawn”, Protector and Silenius have turned over a new leaf in their bottomless sagatitled ”With Doom We Come”.
Summoningfinally unveil first and hotly anticipated details about their upcoming opus, which is set to be released on January 5, 2018 on Napalm Records!
6. Night Fell Behind
8. With Doom I Come
”With Doom We Come” indulges all things sublime and majestic Summoning stands for, while grandiose keyboard backgrounds and mystical intros weave pure atmosphere contrasting with raw black metal. Sagas and myths culled from J.R.R. Tolkien`s vast universe are the black blood that courses through Summoning‘s veins, and”With Doom We Come” the ultimate soundtrack to a fantastic journey!Mark your calendars for January 5, 2018, and stay tuned for many more great news and album details to be announced soon!
Act of Defiance the heavy metal group featuring the veteran talents of Chris Broderick on guitar, Henry Derek on vocals, Shawn Drover on drums and Matt Bachand on bass, will return with their new album, ”Old Scars, New Wounds”, on September 29th via Metal Blade Records. Today, the band has revealed a third new track from the album, the powerful epic ”The Talisman”, via loudwire.com.
For another preview of ”Old Scars, New Wounds”, the previously released songs ”M.I.A.” and ”Overexposure” can be heard at: metalblade.com/actofdefiance – where you can also pre-order the album in the following formats:
–180g Black Vinyl
–Golden Vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 100 copies)
–Auburn Marbled Vinyl (US exclusive – limited to 300 copies)
On ”Old Scars, New Wounds”,Act Of Defiance has upped the ante. Each of the 11 new tracks sound fresh and urgent while wielding a timeless quality that will connect powerfully with metal fans new and old – and there aren’t many contemporary bands who can make such a claim. Naturally blending a plethora of metallic styles and never recycling ideas, ”Old Scars, New Wounds” is an even more dynamic and diverse collection than its predecessor. The title – plucked from the blistering track “Conspiracy Of The Gods” – stands as a metaphor for life in general, and the breadth of lyrical matter covered is as broad as the styles of heavy music found on the record.
2. Molten Core
4. The Talisman
5. Lullaby of Vengeance
6. Circle of Ashes
8. Conspiracy of the Gods
9. Another Killing Spree
10. Broken Dialect
11. Rise of Rebellion
Going into writing the record, the quartet had no grand plan, and spread across the continental US, the individual members worked separately, bouncing demos back and forth and building on each others’ ideas. Like many contemporary bands, through taking advantage of available technologies they made a record that is very much a collaborative effort, despite the distances lying between the members’ home bases. Recruiting producer Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation,Allegaeon) they tracked the record likewise, with Broderick laying down guitars in his own Ill-Fated Studios in LA, Derek and Broderick’s vocals tracked at Red Light Studios also in LA, with Bachand tracking his contributions at Manshark in South Hampton, MA and Drover’s drums were laid down at Atlanta’s Glow In The Dark Studios.
Having proven themselves on the road in support of ”Birth And The Burial” both as headliners and supporting the likes of Killswitch Engage, Hellyeah, and Hatebreed, the band are looking ahead to the expansive touring that will accompany ”Old Scars, New Wounds”, and their hunger to get back in front of crowds has not abated in the slightest. Upcoming touring plans are set to be announced very soon.
Act of Defiance line-up:
Chris Broderick – guitar
Henry Derek – vocals
Shawn Drover – drums
Matt Bachand – bass

Season of Mist recently announced the signing of Árstíðir . The eclectic Icelandic independent / folk rock act will release their much anticipated next album through Season of Mist in 2018.
The band commented: “We have admired bands associated with Season of Mist for years. In our minds, this label represents quality and artistic integrity. It has that aura which tells you that it is all about the music, that the bands are the real deal, and not just grist to the grinding mill of commercial music. And that is the kind of label, you want your music on. We feel a kinship with the good people and artists at Season of Mist, and we are proud be a part of this family.”
Árstíðir have emerged from the burgeoning Icelandic music scene in 2008, when the three founding members coming from different genres discovered their mutual love for vocal harmonies. Daniel, Gunnar and Ragnar quickly went from playing acoustic cover versions to their own sonic footprint amalgamating influences from classical, folk, rock, and minimalist music into something quite unique, which might be carefully dubbed “Icelandic independent”.
With early lyrical references pointing towards the spectacular nature and scenery of this volcanic island and the strongly contrasting moods of its seasons, the band took the name Árstíðir, which means “seasons” in their native Icelandic tongue.
At home, the band experienced a fast rise. Only four months after their conception, Árstíðirhad risen from performing in a coffee shop in Reykjavik to scoring a number one hit on national radio with the track “Sunday Morning”.
The Icelanders published their eponymous debut, ”Árstíðir” in summer 2009, and while their home country was reeling from the market crash, the bands stocks went up. During the air traffic disrupting eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. a first international tour started that led to Árstíðir continuing to tour relentlessly over the next years and gather a dedicated fan base in more than 30 countries.
Their second album, ”Svefns Og Vöku Skil” followed in 2011 and only a year later, the Icelanders won the prestigious Eiserner Eversteiner European Folk Music Award in Germany. While on the road in Germany in 2013, a friend ofÁrstíðir recorded an impromptu performance of the old Icelandic hymn, “Heyr Himna Smiður” in a train station, which went viral on YouTube and has attracted more than 6 million views by now.
Backed by global interest sparked by this viral hit, Árstíðir continued their head-lining tours and furthermore supported Swedish band Pain of Salvation and Dutch vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen.
Árstíðir launched a highly successful crowdfunding campaign in 2014 to finance the recording of their third full-length ”Hvel”, which translates as “spheres” and following its release, the band embarked on a first US tour that reached from coast to coast.
A collaboration with Anneke Van Giersbergen followed in 2016. The album, ”Verloren Verleden” contains a collection of re-imagined traditional and classical songs.
Currently, Árstíðir are working on their forthcoming fourth album, which will be released through Season of Mist worldwide in 2018.

Shining are unleashing the first song ”Jag Är Din Fiende”, taken from their forthcoming album, ”X – Varg Utan Flock”, which is scheduled for release on January 5th.
The song “Jag Är Din Fiende” (which translates as “I Am Your Enemy”) will also be released on the A-side of a 10″ vinyl single that is entitled ”Fiende” and slated to hit the shops on November 24th. The B-side contains a largely acoustic cover version of “No Rest For The Wicked”, originally from Swedish rockabilly act The CoffinShakers.
Mastermind Niklas Kvarforth stated this about the new song:
“The third track, ”Jag Är Din Fiende”, from our upcoming tenth album embodies everything that Shining represents on a musical level. An uncompromising mix of high and low tainted with a sinister atmosphere of horrible unease. Lyrically, this track speaks of the need and means for retribution, making not only this, but the album overall, infused with a nightmarish maliciousness and a pitch-black hatred that hasn’t been as prominent on our earlier albums. There is a war coming and this is our statement on what we have in store for you!”
Shining are furthermore releasing the artwork of the ”Fiende’ 10″ song, which has been created by Bo Mi Kim and can be viewed below.
1. Jag Är Din Fiende (7:05)
2. No Rest For The Wicked (3:37) – The Coffinshakers cover version
The 10 vinyl song ”Fiende”, slated for release on the 24th of November is the first excerpt from the forthcoming Shining album, ”X – Varg Utan Flock”, which will be released on January 5th 2018.
The A-side features the album track “Jag Är Din Fiende”, which translates as “I Am Your Enemy” and delivers a raw and brutal sound contrasting with a surprisingly progressive guitar solo. The B-side contains a largely acoustic cover version of “No Rest For The Wicked”, originally from Swedish rockabilly act The Coffinshakers.
Niklas Kvarforth is not the first artist struggling with mental illness and related issues. The erratic Swede is also not the first musician, whose inner demons are part of his creative genius. Yet in the world of metal, his band Shining remains as a unique and outstanding act in terms of talent and musical excellence.
Founded in 1996 by Kvarforth, Shining self-released ”Submit to Self-Destruction” in 1998 and spawned the term “suicidal black metal” with this debut 7″.
A couple years after first full-length, ”I – Within Deep Dark Chambers” (2000) and sophomore album, ”II – Livets Ändhållplats” (2001) had cut deep marks into the underground scene, Niklas replaced his whole crew, which started a continuous cycle of line-up changes. With Mayhem drummer Hellhammer on board, ”III – Angst” (2003) and ”IV – The Eerie Cold’‘ (2005) began to gather major press attention. Art the ame time, Shining focused on bringing their vision and often controversially received live performances to Europe. Yet Kvarforth’s mental health led to cancellations, physical and psychological fights within the band, and finally a break-up. Not content to let things rest after his breakdown, the restless singer returned with new members and the acclaimed masterpiece, ”V – Halmstad” (2007).
Shining had reached headliner status and toured with other great acts such as Satyricon and Mayhem. Several line-up changes later, the Swede once again entered studio and recorded two albums in one session. ”VI – Klagopsalmer” was released in 2009 and two years later ”VII – Född Förlorare” appeared. The band also received their first gold disc for the song ”Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel” in Sweden.
After rotating more musicians in and out, Shining returned with ‘Redefining Darkness’ (2012) and a less aggressive, yet more sinister sound. Before signing to Season of Mist, the band released the project ”8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, which featured six of Kvarforth’s favourite vocalists. In August 2014, Shining entered Andy LaRocque’s Sonic Train Studios to record their ninth album. ”IX – Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends’‘ as the sum of Niklas Kvarforth’s musical evolution and experience. More line-up changes and breakdowns followed. Now the Swedes are preparing to release ”X – Varg Utan Flock’‘ in 2018.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia and founded in 2001, Halcyon Way is the ultimate example of blue-collar work ethic, self-reliant bootstrapping, and hard work & perseverance in spite of nearly insurmountable odds. The band has released three albums worldwide through Nightmare Records/Sony RED, and performed in a dozen countries and counting. Halcyon Way’s sound cannot be neatly slotted into any sub-category of metal; but it can be described as heavy, catchy, technical, and above all, focused on mature songcraft. In December 2016 Halcyon Way toured Russia with Sabaton, and has also hit the road with bands such as Queensryche, Saxon, Fates Warning , Skid Row, and many others, playing to fans across 4 continents.

Ukrainian groove metalcore band Jinjer and Swedish melodic death metal masters Arch Enemy held a concert for the first time at Dom Omladine in Belgrade on September 18th. I can say about the show, it was a demonstration of melodic technical virtuosity, both bands showed with their energy on the stage, what it means to play a perfect show.
While approaching the hall, there were many fans waiting to get in the hall. They were so excited and happy to be there, with those magical smiles on their faces, especially the female fans of the both bands. The time passed bye, the fans were waiting for bands to start playing and time has come for the first band to start playing.
The first band to play was Ukrainian groove metalcore band Jinjer that began the show in 20:30h right on time. They started the show with the song ”Who Is Gonna Be The One?”, the crowd was very happy to see them, and the audience were in big numbers at their show, the ovations started for the begging to the end of show. Then they played ”Words Of Wisdom”, ”Sit Stay Roll Over”, ”I Speak Astronomy” and many more.
Vocalist Tatiana Shmailyuk showed her amazing energy and vocals to the audience, her brutal and crushing vocals are quite unique and made the atmosphere powerful and the audience was in trance. The best reactions were to their songs ”Pisces” and ”Another”.
The vocalist Tatiana was all over the stage, she had that fierce energy the hole time, she also showed that her clean vocals are amazing as growls as well. Audience enjoy every part of the show, watching the vocalist of the band without blinking. Last song that band played was ”Bad Water” and then the band left the stage and fans were screaming that they want more, but that was it and it was time for swedish legends to rock the stage.
Arch Enemy is well known as a band that has given so much to metal music, one of the most important metal bands today. This band was at the begging a force of destruction and with their former vocalist Angele Gossow they made a mark in metal history presenting the female vocalist that can do a mans job while growling. Today it’s the same thingwith Alissa White-Gluz ,it’sdifferent, but it’s a new fresh change, whether you like it or not. She brought something unique and different in band and presented her influence on the show as well and it was quite a good one, she rock the stage in every possible way. The band recorded two albums with Alissa ”War Eternal” and ”Will to Power” both of albums got positive reactions.
The band started the show with the song ”The World Is Yours” from the new album ”Will To Power” and the ovations from started, they were screaming in trance with continuity, they were one with the band, which made the atmosphere amazing and magical. Alissa demonstrated that her vocals are amazing live as well in studio and the songs, she was all over the place, with headbanging like crazy and she had an interesting corregraphy while dancing and screaming, it was so explosive. Most of the fans say Angele was better, she was great, this can not be denied, but Alissa gave the band hole new mark and shine, it’s not the same Arch Enemy as before, it’s a new on, that the new fans and the old ones can enjoy together equally. They played many songs, and one of them was ”The Eagle Flies Alone”, even if the song was the new one, the fans known the lyrics of the song, they were screaming the words all the way through out the hole song. They also played after this song, many more songs like ”War Eternal”, ”Stolen Life”, ”As The Pages Burn”, ”Avalanche” from the album ”War Eternal”. After that, they played older songs for the Angele era like ”Ravenous”, ”My Apocalypse” and ”We Will Rise”.
In some moment during the show, Alissa asked the audience which fans were on their previous shows and which ones were for the first time and to raise their hands, many of the raised hands that they were the first time on their show, Alissa was so happy with it, and the band was also satisfied that they played for the first time for the crowd, who sees them for the first time.
The sound and the songs from the band sounded the same live as on the record, for some fans that was a bad think, for some were not, it’s literally a subjective feeling, to me it’s was great in both many ways, they did their job, the show was great.
The technical virtuosity of Michael Amott and Jeff Loomis was not of this world, this two presented some wicked kickass guitar playing, with a rhythm section of Daniela Erlandsson and Sharlee D’Angelo it was a journey trough a another dimension, and solos were a gateway to that dimension.
The show was ending, and the band played the last song ”Nemesis” and the most famous one from them, the fans went crazy, and they left the stage, some fans were satisfied, some were not, but the point is that the band left the impression on both sides.
After the show the band was in a friendly mood to take some pictures and to chat with their fans and before that shaking hands with their fans. Arch Enemy showed why they are one of the best metal bands in the world, with melodic death metal mayhem that made an earthquake in the hall, this day will be remembered as a melodic metal salvation.

Hirax is an American thrash metal band beginning in 1984 under the leadership of vocalist Katon W. De Pena (founding member). The band was an early example of the thrash metal, speed metal and crossover. Hirax is based in Los Angeles but, at that time, because of the weak metal scene in their area, they spent most of their time playing in San Francisco along with Slayer, Metallica, and Exodus, who were all part of the exciting new metal emerging from the Bay area. They released a four-song demo in 1984. This demo was widely circulated and the band became known and respected worldwide through the metal tape trading underground. Since then Hirax has released 5 full length studio albums and multiple EPs and has toured the world including many festivals in South America, Europe, Japan, Scandinavia, and the U.S.A.
Within the European tour called “FOLK METAL MARATHON”Russian metal bands GRAI, SatanaKozel and Czech/Russia metal band Welicoruss are going to held a concert in Belgrade at Club Fest in October 1st! The russia metal folk night is upon us, be there to witness the cool and magical power of raw and folk sound combined together. The price of the ticket will be RSD 700 in pre-sales, and on the day of the concert it will cost RSD 900. Booking can be made via e-mail: email@example.com
The band was created on the 3rd of July in 2005. The style can be identified as folk-metal. At the very beginning the name of the band was changed several times. It was “Raven Blood”, then “Vorog” ( the enemy), and in February of 2007 it finally got it’s name “GRAI” (meaning the bird’s cry). Gradually the material for the new album has been composing and there were given a few concerts. One of the first band’s appearances took place on the 6th of May in 2006 together with such folk-metal bands as Alkonost, Svarga.
On the 2nd of December in 2006 the band participated in Folk/Brutal Metal Fest jointly with Rossomahaar, Alkonost. From February to August of 2007 there had been recording an EP(demo) entitled “Ot Istoka”( From the Source), which included 4 compositions: The Birch, Winter, The Winds, The Source. The recording was proceeding at the studio of Sergey Kamyshansky in Naberezhnye Chelny, RF.
On the 1st of November in 2007 there was held a performance at the presentation of the new album by Arkona from Moscow ”Ot Serdza k nebu” (From heart to heavens”) within the framework of their tour of 2007. At that very concert ”GRAI” presented their EP ”Ot Istoka”.
During the period from February till June of 2008 at the studio of Sergey Kamyshansky in Naberezhnye Chelny, RF had been recording the band’s first LP ”Polyn” and ”Trava” (”The Sagebrush”). The album consisted of 9 compositions. It’s no mere chance that the album has such a name – it’s symbolical and reveals the concept of creative work and the world – outlook of the band musicians. The Sagebrush is a symbol of grief and sorrow for the times which had passed – the times of Slavic pride, valour, courage and honour.
The album is just permeated with the spirit of those ancient times, each song’s reflected in a striking image. And there’s more in this than meets the eye! Folk tunes, excellent wind-instruments parts coupled with guitars and splendid female voices of the band vocalists produce their own certain effect. The album is released by the Moscow label VOLH Records(www.volh.net/news.html). During the period of the album presentation there had been given a set of concerts joined with many groups including Alkonost, Svarga, Arkona, Rossomahaar.
After the edition of the album two members left the band Darya “Rodonitsa” and Andrey “Char”. Meanwhile a new bass player Yury Bedusenko , appeared in the group. Since that time the role of the second vocalist had been performed by Alija Latypova the flutist.
On the 10th of September in 2009 the album ”Polyn””trava” was represented in a Moscow club “Relax”.
On the 25th of of 2010 at the studio of Sergey Kamyshansky the band began recording the second LP consisting of 10 tracks.
As the members of the group see it the album would be stirring and cheerful. On the 27th November in 2010 in Nizhniy Novgorod was held a concert together with Arkona. Continuing working at the studio the band didn’t stop giving concerts. At this very period the group hired Irina Zybina as the third vocalist who participated in recording one of the Alkonost’s albums as folk vocalist.
Irina’s beautiful powerful voice blended with the band repertoire perfectly.
Now work in the studio is finished and the group continues to do concerts in various cities throughout Russia. The group’s going to release the album and to make it’s super-presentation!=)
On the 27 of September the label Sound Age Prod (www.soundage.org) released a new album of Grai-band entitled “O Zemle Rodnoi” (”Our native land”).
Having released it’s first CD ”The sagebrush” in 2009 the band Grai is now presenting a new album entitled ”Our Native Land”. The album to come is going to include 10 conceptual tracks, which create remarkably profound images forming the musical unity in the familiar band’s style.
The new album by Grai is a distinctive synthesis of traditional pagan metal elements based on the rhythms and the atmosphere of traditional Russian folk-rock. In this synthesis the flute-sounds are interwoven with solo guitar play against the dynamic rhythm-section. Hard imposing fragments being intensified by the bagpipes sounds are enriched by appeasing keyboard passages. But the main piquancy of new songs is lace like well balanced vocal trio of the band-singers. With their voices they plunge a listener into the world of our forefathers and ancestors and make us fly by the fields, meadows and forests with fresh wind. And they open to our eyes and hearts the hidden beauty of Native Land. Also the T-shirts are printed.
We tried to make this album as much merry, dynamic, diverse as possible, with a particle of good humor and the sunlight so that everyone could find something to one’s taste.
Moreover, one of the songs was written under the influence of sharing stage and getting acquainted with a splendid band, our friends now – Leshak-band (Moscow).
We hope, all the listeners would like this album.
