Nukem

Band members:

Lead Guitar/Vocals:Steve Brogden
Drums:Norm Leggio
Bass Guitar: Don Lauder
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Genre: Thrash metal

1.How the band started?

Back in 2012, long time friend Steve Brogden asked me, Don Lauder, if I was interested in slinging some Thrash Metal bass for him and I said yes, of course. At the time, Steve was playing in the band Cage with drummer Norm Leggio and guitarist Dave Garcia. Since Cage was at a temporary pause at the moment, we decided to see if Norm and Dave wanted to jam with us. They did and we wrote some songs and got Nukem rolling. Shortly after, life happens and Dave decided to step down from Nukem. We’ve played out as a 3 piece band which is great, but every now and then our really good friend, Laura Christine, steps in and makes us a 4 piece, which is better in a lot of ways.

2.Which band is your role model?

Wow, I don’t know if I can narrow it down to just 1 band. All my favorites have unique qualities that I try and make into my own. I love their music of course, but their personal endeavors as a band influences me as well. I’ll just name a few: Overkill for their unending drive of always delivering the music. MetallicA for their tenacity of being at the top of the Metal food chain. TestAmenT for their perseverance.

3.What do you think about today’s metal scene?

The Metal scene on the global scale is bigger than ever! The number of sub genres of Metal is insane and there seems to be more and more popping up each year. I find that totally awesome and inspiring. The fact that there are that many Metalheads out there playing music is just a beautiful thing.

4.How would you describe in one sentence your work?

Nukem’s music is just straight up Old School Thrash Metal. The kind we all grew up with and loved. With this project we decided to have fun and play what comes natural to us. Nothing forced and nothing fake.

5.Why did you decide to play this musical direction?

I think Steve, Norm, and myself were all on the same page with our music careers. We’ve all been in bands that pushed the envelope in the ways of technical Metal. Looking back to those times, I think we realized that we just wanted to Thrash it up again.

Image may contain: one or more people, people on stage, people playing musical instruments, concert, night and guitar

6.Where would you most like to play a concert?

I would love to play Waken Open Air. I think that’s my Holy Grail for venues. But not to take away from anywhere else. I’ll play any place, any time. I’ll play your backyard party!

7.Do you think that the metal festivals are enough visited?

Here in the USA? No because we don’t have enough of them. I get really envious when I see all the awesome festivals happening elsewhere in the world.

8.What are you listening to the most right now?

All the awesome new Metal that’s been released in 2016! This year has really sucked in just about everything but Metal releases. It seems like everyone and they’re grandma delivered the goods this year. New releases from Metal Church, Death Angel, Flotsam & Jetsam, TestAmenT, Opeth, Meshuggah, Anthrax, and I have to say that I am looking forward to this new MetallicA.

9.What would you say to your fans?

Guys! Thanks for all your support and for even listening to Nukem. We really can’t have this much fun without all of you. I can speak for the rest of the band when I say, we want you guys to be apart of the Nukem Family!

10.What are your plans for the future?

It’s 12 noon for me right now, so maybe lunch? haha Well, the album just released in September so we are going to continue to push the hell out of it and at the same time, we have 3 songs in the works for album #2. So it will be a good balance of that along with making new friends and getting ourselves to a venue near you!

Huldre

Band Members:

Vocal: Nanna Barslev
Violin: Laura Emilie Beck
HurdyGurdy/Flutes: Troels Dueholm Nørgaard
Guitar: Lasse Olufson
Bass: Bjarne Kristiansen
Drums: Jacob Lund
Hometown: Copenhagen, Denmark
Genre: Nordic Folk metal

1.How the band started?

The very first seeds of Huldre were sown in 2006. As with all things in life it took a few years to mature and summon the right spirits, but in early 2010 the band played their first concerts, released the self-titled 5-track demo “Huldre” and with the addition of the hurdy-gurdy and flute in late 2010 the line-up of today was complete.

In 2012 Huldre released their debut album “Intet Menneskebarn” (No Human Child), which was recorded and produced in LSD Studio in Lübeck (DE) by Lasse Lammert. The album has received international attention and is highly praised by critics for the unique and contrasting sound universe as well as the complex and catchy compositions.

The same year Huldre was elected “Surprise of the year 2012” by Danish webzine HeavyMetal.dk. In May 2014 Huldre won Wacken Metal Battle Denmark 2014 by winning both preliminary heats, the online audience poll as well as the finale and went on to gain 3rd place at the international finale at Wacken. This lead to many concerts throughout 2014 and 2015 at both small and large metal festivals, and various venues in Europe, including Copenhell and Trolls & Legends (where they won the honourful prize “Troll d’Or – Musique”), and a rise in the attention to the band and their material.

In 2016 the band was inducted into Ragnarock – The Museum For Pop, Rock and Youth Culture as one of three bands illustrating a new wave of Danish Rock and Metal. In late 2016 the bands second album “Tusmørke” is released.

2.Which band is your role model?

None.

3.What do you think about today’s metal scene?

The underground is teeming with interesting stuff, as always.

4.How would you describe in one sentence your work?

You get a unique Huldre atmosphere where old wooden instruments, nordic singing style together with heavy guitar, bass and drums creates a perfect harmony and we want to invite people into twisted tales about the relationship between nature and human.

5.Why did you decide to play this musical direction?

Because we love metal and we love folk music. And we like to combine the dark melodic atmosphere from the folk genre with the heavy riffs from the metal. Its a combination which goes very well together and especially because all of us share the same visions and ideas about the atmosphere in the music we create.

No automatic alt text available.

6.Where would you most like to play a concert?

Since we already played Wacken it would be weird to say that again, but it would be awesome to revisit that festival.

7.Do you think that the metal festivals are enough visited?

Yes.

8.What are you listening to the most right now?

That varies a lot. We listen to a lot of different stuff.

9.What would you say to your fans?

Thank you! For being awesome and beautiful and the greatest we could not wish for more.

10.What are your plans for the future?

More touring, more music.

BLOODRED

Image may contain: one or more people, people on stage, people playing musical instruments and concert

Band Members:

Ron (Music & Lyrics)
Hometown: Germany
Genre: Blackened death metal

1.How the band started?

At 2009 Ron Merz first began writing music under the name of BLOODRED and from the very beginning the music was rooted in the more extreme genres of metal: Black and Death metal with influences from Thrash and some British Doom. Due to the musical orientation and the needs to the musicianship his Swabian homeland is lacking matching fellow musicians. So BLOODRED to this day is the sole project of Ron Merz.

2.Which band is your role model?

Musically there would many bands which I should mention, but I think I´ll go with Metallica, because this was the band which brought me into Metal in the mid-80s.

3.What do you think about today’s metal scene?

Today’s metal scene is very diverses but at the same time entangled in genre-wars about what is really “metal” or “true” and so on. This my be a reflection of todays society but I think we can and should do better.

4.How would you describe in one sentence your work?

BLOODRED plays Extreme Metal with influences from Black, Death, Thrash and even a little bit of (British) Doom.

5.Why did you decide to play this musical direction?

I love (and need!) the pure energy, the high tempo but also the beautiful melodies and epic parts. I want my music to be layered and not one-dimensional, so taking all these influences and melting them into my style is always a new challenge for me.

Image may contain: 1 person

6.Where would you most like to play a concert?

I think playing Eistnaflug in Iceland would be awesome!

7.Do you think that the metal festivals are enough visited?

At least here in Europe I think there are enough visitors to the many metal festivals.

8.What are you listening to the most right now?

The latest albums/music form Moonsorrow, Dark Tranquillity, Metallica and the new BLOODRED songs for the next album (due in 2017).

9.What would you say to your fans?

Be open minded and respect the people around you. And if you listen to BLOODRED, let me know what you think!

10.What are your plans for the future?

Currently I´m finishing the writing process for the new album and then will start recording these new songs, again with Alexander Krull in his Mastersound Studio and with Joris Nijenhuis on the drums.

Toxic Ruin

Band members:

 Vocals:Chubzy McDuf
 Guitar:Jacob Baneck
Guitar:Mike Hasselman
 Drums:David Miller
Bass:Stephen Behrendt

Hometown:Sheboygan/America

Genre:Thrash progressive heavy metal

1.How the band started?

Toxic Ruin was spawned from 2 different cover bands. Members of both groups collectively wanted to do something fast, heavy, and original. After a couple of shifts in the line up, the current Toxic Ruin was the result.

2.Which band is your role model?

ALL OF THEM! lol, we all have different influences that get thrown into the melting pot. some of us are more straight thrash and death metal where others have more traditional heavy metal backgrounds. But, I guess if we have to name one… FUCKIN SLAYER!!!

3.What do you think about today’s metal scene?

Metal today has improved tremendously over the past 10 to 15 years I think. we see a lot more bands focusing on their skills and honing their musicianship rather than just following whatever trend is big at the moment. For a while all that was coming out was the same cookie cutter metal core band over and over again.

4.How would you describe in one sentence your work?

Original, progressive, thrash metal from the eastern shores of beer-fueled Wisconsin!

5.Why did you decide to play this musical direction?

Because metal is the single greatest style of music on the planet!

6.Where would you most like to play a concert?

We’ll play pretty much anywhere we can fit our gear, but Waken Open Air would be a dream come true!

7.Do you think that the metal festivals are enough visited?

Not in the U.S. We don’t have as many festivals in the states though either. They happen possibly 2 times a year, so they’re generally sold out, or close to it.

8.What are you listening to the most right now?

Revocation. Those guys haul serious ass.

9.What would you say to your fans?

Share our music! Help spread the word! If you like what you hear support us and buy our merch!

10.What are your plans for the future?

We’re going to continue playing live and writing new music. We’re working on album 2 currently and it sounds like its going to be a good one!

Wizards of Gore

Bass : Apprentice Kliff Kurton
Drums/Back Vocals: Radagast The Brown
Guitars / Main Vocals :Grind Maguz Asstonidass Buttrippa

Hometown:Croatia/Zagreb

Genre: Grindcore

1.How the band started?

The band started in 2013. with a different line-up and we were called, Elperly Dick. We changed the name to Wizards of Gore in 2015. and with a new line-up, we started to work on new songs and reworked the old songs.

2.Which band is your role model?

Not sure right now, since we are going into a different direction and we all have different tastes in music, but at the beginning it was definitely Gutalax.

3.What do you think about today’s metal scene?

It can be better.

4.How would you describe in one sentence your work?

PARTYPORNOGOREGRIND.

5.Why did you decide to play this musical direction?

The guitarist was influenced by both Gutalax and Bathtube Shitter (japanese death/grind band). And since the latter band had a song that had a funky part, he wanted to do something like that.

6.Where would you most like to play a concert?

Obscene Extreme. That is our goal. Other than that, we would play anywhere.

7.Do you think that the metal festivals are enough visited?

Yes, pretty much.

8.What are you listening to the most right now?

The drummer is cranking up some tunes by Black Sabbath and Rainbow, the bassist is listening to some Dying Fetus, Abominable Putridity, along with Fastkill, Vio-lence and, believe it or not, soundtrack music from movies and shows (he likes that stuff), the second guitarist who just joined us (and could come to rehearsal once in a while) is also blasting some Abominable Putridity, Guttural Slug etc. As for the other guitar/vocalist, he is listening to a lot of shit, from Gutalax and Nasum, to Eminem and Limp Bizkit. And Pink Guy.

9.What would you say to your fans?

You’re all our friends. And grind the fuck on!

10.What are your plans for the future?

Make a new EP, start playing gigs and just have fun doing it.
