Norwegian Art Of Deception is a melodic death metal band with thrash and progressive influences. They formed as youngsters in 2012 and they have been playing live and making music ever since. Their live show can be described as energetic and full of crazy ass windmilling. Furthermore, the band is planning to release a new album, entitled ”Path of Trees”, at the beginning of 2018, just 1,5 year after their debut album ”Shattered Delusions”!
Check out the official music video of ”Killing” from the debut album ”Shattered Delusions”:
During the recording sessions for ‘Proponent for Sentience‘, Denver, CO’s Allegaeon recorded two Rush covers. Fans have already heard ”Subdivisions”, which was included on the album and has since become the band’s most streamed track on Spotify. Today, in celebration of January 6, 2018, the date version of the band’s song ”1.618”, Allegaeon is releasing their cover of ”Animate” worldwide on all digital music services. Listen to the song and stream/download from your preferred provider here: smarturl.it/allegaeon-animate
Guitarist Greg Burgess stated this about the cover:
“When we settled on Rush to cover during the ‘Proponent’ sessions, I simply couldn’t pick which song to do. ‘Subdivisions’ or ‘Animate.’ Both were favorites for me personally, and both were sort of ‘under the radar’ eg. not ‘Tom Sawyer’ or ‘Spirit of the Radio.’ Where the original idea was to do a cover for a Japanese bonus track, we figured if we did both we could cover a special song for both the Japan AND Europe pressing. Then the powers that be decided to just include ‘Subdivisions’ on the album, and keep ‘Animate’ in reserve for something. Jan 6th, 2018 is the only occurrence of the golden ratio in date form that will occur during our life time. So 1.6.18 seemed like the perfect date to release it in Allegaeon fashion.”
”Proponent for Sentience” was released in September of 2016. The album was produced by Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation) and is a complex, intelligent, and absorbing concept record that can rightfully sit alongside the true greats of the medium. Allegaeon will begin recording their fifth full-length album with Otero at Flatline Audio in March.
The New Year has started with a bang for all Sodom fans.
Vocalist/Bassist Tom Angelripper has split up with guitarist Bernd “Bernemann” Kost and drummer Markus “Makka” Freiwald.
Statement of the Vocalist/bassist Tom about his slip up with the band:
“After much thought and reflection, I have decided on this difficult step to pave the way for new challenges,”Sodom has always lived off the commitment and passion of everybody involved. Makka was part of the band for almost eight years, Bernemann even for more than twenty. To obviate a possible routine setting in which would make it impossible to continue our creative work optimally, I would like to start all over again with fresh and hungry musicians. At the same time, I would like to say thank you to Bernemann and Makka for many successful years in which we performed fantastic shows and released a number of real metal manifestos.”I haven’t really made up my mind in this respect, I’m open to all options. I will now install the band’s new foundation pillars and look around for new musicians. One thing is already clear: Sodom will become even stronger!SPV also look forward to our future collaboration and can expect a totally motivated band.”
Regardless of this spectacular line-up change, all scheduled Sodom shows will take place from April 2018 as announced. Tom is set to introduce his new comrades-in-arms at the Full Metal Mountain.
Whether Sodom will continue to operate as a trio or perhaps become a quartet in future remains unclear.
Together with his new line-up, Tom wants to start working on the upcoming album to be released on Steamhammer/SPV as soon as possible.

SepticFleshare painting an apocalyptic vision and make full use of their impressive musical palette consisting of death metal and orchestral colors on their tenth full-length ”Codex Omega”.
From their alpha EP ”Temple of the Lost Race” that was released one year after their founding in 1990, the Greek musicians have pushed the limits of the metal genre and continued to explore new sonic path with every following release from their debut album ”Mystic Places of Dawn” (1994) to the stunning ‘Sumerian Daemons’ (2003), which have in the meantime all been re-issued by Season of Mist.
Yet SepticFlesh had clearly come into their own sound when they unleashed their celebrated comeback album after a five-year hiatus that re-charged their artistic batteries. ”Communion” (2008) offered a well-balanced amalgamation of metal elements that were freely drawn from the darker side of the genre including death, black, and gothic metal with epic orchestral arrangements. This symphonic excellence was based on guitarist Christos Antoniou bringing to bear the fruits of his academic studies of classical composition, which he passed with honours and distinction.
With a clear musical compass to navigate, SepticFlesh continued to explore their sound and the compositional possibilities of this new-found metal continent. ”The Great Mass” (2011) and ”Titan” (2014) saw the Greeks evolving at fast speed and at the same time gathering adherents as well as critical praise in ever growing numbers. Extended touring on both sides of the Atlantic and performances at about every important festival further consolidated the bands burgeoning status.
Although the biblical omega marks the end, SepticFleshon the contraryare reaching their current peak with ”Codex Omega”, an album that clearly witnesses the Greek visionaries having come to maturity and expert craftsmanship in every sense.
Septicfleshare the undisputable masters of symphonic death metal and ”Codex Omega”is the perfect proof for this bold statement.
Sinistro are now premiering their complete forthcoming magical album, ”Sangue Cássia” exclusively via Metal Hammer. The Portuguese Fado rockers will release their next masterpiece tomorrow on January 5th.
The band stated this about their new album and about Metal Hammer magazine:
“After a great and busy 2017, it’s with great satisfaction that we are joining forces with Metal Hammer and stream our brand new album, ‘Sangue Cássia’, which is out on January 5th via Season Of Mist. Enjoy!”
Sinistro Festivals show dates:
31 Mar 18 Oslo (NO) Inferno Festival 2018
04 Jul 18 Tolmin (SI) Metal Days (exact date TBC)
When Sinistro emerged out of a spontaneous spark on a hot summer’s day spent dallying in the studio, nobody could have predicted the meteoric rise of these fascinating Portuguese doom rockers. Their first album, a new beginning after some different earlier attempts, was strongly cherished by critics and fans alike, with invitations to prestigious festivals following at an astonishing pace.
Now Sinistro presents the follow-up to the highly praised ”Semente”(2016) and even the first impression allows to state that ”Sangue Cássia” marks another huge step in the career of the remarkable band fronted by vocalist extraordinaire Patrícia Andrade. The new full-length clearly shows the confidence and experience gained from their numerous live performances.
Sinistro succeeds in expanding their sonic horizon while keeping all the elements that made ‘Semente’ special. The melancholy and painful longing expressed in the national chant of Portugal, Fado is seamlessly forged together with rock and metal. Sinistro harness erotic energy and lustful moments as well as bitterness and regret. Silky softness and velvet warmth contrast sharply with harsh edges and stinging spikes.
Sinistro started out by exploring a wide range of reference points for their self-titled debut, which was released in 2012, such as Massive Attack, Ennio Morricone, Radiohead, Faith No More, Angelo Badalementi, David Bowie, Swans, Unwound, Mogwai, and Crippled Black Phoenix to name but a few possible comparisons.
On their following effort, ”Cidade” (2013), the Portuguese welcomed singer Patrícia Andrade, who quickly turned out to be the missing element in Sinistro‘s path snaking between elegant doom rock and a soundtrack like an approach. Massive guitar walls combined with gritty keyboard layers and a deeply emotional vocal performance established the band as an essential name in the Portuguese music scene.
Having perfected their signature musical handwriting on ”Semente”, Sinistro are now adding experience and maturity to their songs. Each track on ”Sangue Cássia” is its own story and cosmos that will engulf and swallow the listener. Take your time to profoundly enjoy and marvel at the wonders laid out by ”Sangue Cássia”!

Russian death/thrashers Pokerface have released a music video to “The World Is Yours”, a Swedish melodic death legends Arch Enemy a cover song. The guest lead guitar was played by Lisaveta Schtoltz.
My personal opinion about this cover is that is different in many ways, but the vocals of Alexandra Orlova is just amazing and brutal as hell, with the unique combination of the clean vocals, it’s not technically perfect as the original song, but it has that crazy insane thrash metal vibe and thrash metal influence, pure destruction, rage and anger, amazing cover and the vocals.
Video production, post-production, and effects: Dmitry Morsus (Amorsus Studio)
Location: Sunlight studio, Moscow
Recording, mastering, and mixing: Konstantin Vihrev

The band was created in Moscow in 2013. Doctor (drums) and Dietrich (guitar) organized a group with an ironic name Pokerface. The band got over some changes of musicians, but it has never stopped to work intensively in the studio and on stage and finally had crystallized its unique style.
Pokerface shared the stage with such famous bands as Sodom, Onkel Tom, Sister Sin, Knorkator, Sepultura, Overkill, Claustrophobia, Children of Bodom, Vader, Megadeth, Kreator, Death DTA and Infected Rain.
Shining are now unleashing their complete forthcoming album, ”X – Varg Utan Flock”, which will be out tomorrow on January 5th.
The Frontman Niklas Kvarforth stated this about their new album :
“The time has finally come to invite you to my most destructive nightmare yet, enjoy!”The artwork of ‘X – Varg Utan Flock’, which has been created by Kevin Rolly is shown below.
1. Svart Ostoppbar Eld (7:11)
2. Gyllene Portarnas Bro (6:39)
3. Jag Är Din Fiende (7:05)
4. Han Som Lurar Inom (8:03)
5. Tolvtusenfyrtioett (2:53)
6. Mot Aokigahara (9:33)
Total playing time: 41:24
Niklas Kvarforth is not the first artist struggling with mental illness and related issues. The erratic Swede is also not the first musician whose inner demons are part of the creative genius. Yet in the world of metal, his band Shining remains as a unique and outstanding act in terms of talent and musical excellence. Never shy about his personal afflictions, Niklas Kvarforth is once again baring his tortured soul with ”X – Varg Utan Flock”.
His anger, his confusion, his pain, and his torment are all becoming tangible on the tenth album in the band’s long history. For a point of reference, the legendary ”V – Halmstad” release probably offers the most appropriate comparison. Yet all the influences Shining fused into their previous masterpiece, ‘IX – Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends’ (2015) are also still present. Eclectic influences from progressive rock, jazz, classical music, and even faint traces of pop have left their mark. In addition to the broad musical spectrum on display, Niklas Kvarforth’s deeply emotional laments emerging from the dark depths of his twisted mind go beyond the usual scale of metal bands in their great vocal scope and variety.
Founded in 1996 by Kvarforth, Shining self-released ”Submit to Self-Destruction” in 1998 and spawned the term “suicidal black metal” with this debut 7″. A couple years after first full-length, ”I – Within Deep Dark Chambers” (2000) and sophomore album, ”II – Livets Ändhållplats” (2001) had cut deep marks into the underground scene, Niklas replaced his whole crew, which started a continuous cycle of line-up changes. With Mayhem drummer Hellhammer on board, ”III – Angst” (2003) and ”IV – The Eerie Cold” (2005) began to gather major press attention. At the same time, Shining focused on bringing their vision and often controversially received live performances to Europe.
Yet Kvarforth’s mental health led to cancellations, physical and psychological fights within the band, and finally a break-up. Not content to let things rest after his breakdown, the restless singer returned with new members and the acclaimed masterpiece, ”V – Halmstad” in 2007. By then Shining had reached headliner status and toured with other great acts such as Satyricon and Mayhem.
Several line-up changes later, the Swede recorded two albums in one session: ”VI – Klagopsalmer” was released in 2009, to be followed by ”VII – Född Förlorare” two years later. The band also received their first gold disc for the single ”Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel” in Sweden.
After rotating more musicians in and out, Shining returned with ‘Redefining Darkness’ (2012) and a less aggressive, yet more sinister sound. Before signing to Season of Mist, the band released the project ”8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, which featured six of Kvarforth’s favorite vocalists.
In August 2014, Shining entered Andy LaRocque’s Sonic Train Studios to record their ninth album, ”IX – Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends” as the sum of Niklas Kvarforth’s musical evolution and experience. More line-up changes and breakdowns followed. Yet Niklas Kvarforth clawed his way up from the depths once more and returned to Andy LaRocque and Sonic Train Studios to record another album. The result, ”X – Varg Utan Flock” is a musical masterpiece far beyond simple genre limitations and a shining tribute to the achievement that a troubled mind is capable of when driven by a passionate will to excel and overcome. Listen with respect.

You can’t talk about the true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal without reverent mention of Ensiferum, and with ”Two Paths” they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, ”Two Paths‘ is simultaneously the Finnish quintet’s most epic and far-reaching collection and their most organic, which definitely sets it apart from the pack. Additionally, the album literally takes the concept of ”Two Paths” to heart, with two different versions of standout tracks ”Don’t You Say” and ”God Is Dead”.
Statment of the bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka of the band:
“Even though Ensiferum has always had clean vocals and choirs, harsh vocals have been the main style, and those songs worked so well with both styles that we decided to include both versions,”
Sami Hinkka. with Mikko P. Mustonen are again handling orchestral arrangements and Lassi Logren returning to play nyckelharpa and violin on a few songs, Hinkka is also more than happy that they brought “more bombastic orchestral and down to earth folk aspects” to the record, further fleshing out their vision. This also applies to the contribution of Gyula Havancsak, who provided the artwork for both ”Two Paths”and its predecessor ”One Man Army”.
Statment about the artist who worked on their cover for the album:
“It was really nice to work with him again because he always wants to hear our ideas and then he adds his own magic and improvements to them, and the result is always astonishing.”
Ensiferum released their new album ”Two Paths” in September of 2017 via Metal Blade Records, for their efforts, the band has entered the worldwide charts, e.g. # 4 in Finland, # 9 in Germany, # 18 in Switzerland, # 35 in Canada and # 160 in the USA.
