Gorguts bassist releases play-through video for their album ”Pleiades’ Dust”!

Colin Marston has released a remarkable play-through video for the complete ”Pleiades ‘ Dust” EP via his own YouTube channel.

Disclaimer: Season of Mist is not responsible for any entangling or other damage to your fingers if you are trying to replicate his playing.

Gorguts’ latest, highly acclaimed latest EP ”Pleiades’ Dust”, which consists of one epic track is still available in various formats via the Season of Mist shop.

The artwork of the EP that contains only its epic title track was created by renowned Polish artist Zbigniew M. Bielak

Canada’s long-running and much-loved craftsmen of technical death metal are returning with a 33-minute song. Entitled ” Pleiades’ Dust ” this complex, image-evoking, and masterly arranged eponymous track fills an entire EP. Expect the unexpected, when it comes to Gorguts.

In an age of a postulated clash of cultures, mastermind Luc Lemay delivers a piece of music that is conceptually and lyrically based on the ”House of Wisdom”, a medieval library based in Baghdad and at the heart of the Golden Age of Islam with its many scientific breakthroughs in various fields of learning.

Vocalist and Guitarist Luc stated this:

“It is a story about curiosity, beautiful minds and sadly, about how man destroys great discoveries and achievements.” Musically there is more narrative feeling as each section is introduced in such a way that every riff has the space to evolve like a character in a story.”

Few extreme bands can boast the pedigree of Gorguts. During their early days as part of death metal’s first wave, they created a legacy of legendary releases including their debut album ”Considered Dead ”(1991) and its more experimental and technical follow-up ”Erosion of Sanity” (1993). After a hiatus of five years, Luc Lemay returned with a new line-up, which released the highly acclaimed and seminal third full-length ”Obscura”(1998). By then Gorguts had been busy at expanding and redefining the language of death metal. With a new line-up that left Lemay as the sole original member, the next milestone album was released under the title ”From Wisdom to Hate ” (2001).

GORGUTS picture by Jimmy Hubbard

Yet again the band went into hibernation, while their musical legacy continued to inspire and thrive as their native Quebec became a focus for technical death metal with acts such as CryptopsyNeuraxis, and Beyond Creation to name but a few following in their footsteps. After more than a decade of silence, mastermind Luc Lemay unleashed ”Colored Sands” (2013) with an all-star line-up including Colin Marston(Behold The Arcotpus), Kevin Hufnagel (DYSRHYTHMIA), and John Longstreath (OriginSkinless), who has in the meantime been replaced by Patrice Hamelin (Quo VadisBeneath The Massacre).

Now Gorguts return with their most experimental song so far that combines all their virtues into one massive masterpiece. Lean back and listen carefully!

Out Now! Quebec City Folk Metal Nordheim Unleash “RapThor”, an album about bacon and dinosaurs!

Nordheim‘s philosophy is a simple one, to make fun folk metal, which is evident in their previous releases “Refill” (2013), “Lost In The North” (2010) plus being Wacken Metal Battle Canada finalists in 2015. Returning in 2017, this quartet of dungeon and dragons enthusiasts are unleashing their latest offering “RapThor”, now available as of November 24th. Influenced by bands such as Finntroll, Ensiferum, Kalmah and Wintersun, Nordheim ‘s third studio album is eight tracks dedicated to the epic flavor of bacon, the colossus power of dinosaurs and more with such titles as “Troll Riding A Raptor”, “Boobs And Bacon” and “Dragonthorn”.

Vocalist/guitarist Warraxe stated this about their album:

“We want to give the fans one of the heaviest and nastiest folk metal albums to date with ‘RapThor’. It is different from our first two. We had great feedback when we played the songs live. This album is the heaviest of them all while cutting back on the European folklore influences. It’s the result of our hard work over the last few years. It is super-heavy party music!”

As the Quebec City band plans show dates for 2018, they wants fans to really know their sense of fun.

The statement about their shows and the atmosphere on them:

“When we play live it’s a frickin’ party! We move a lot, scream, hump the air, we drink from the fans’ beer bottles and in turn, we feed them beer, with the help of our friends and roadies coming up on stage and pouring beer in their faces. Usually between songs I’ll be making jokes about anything I can think of, as long as it’s dumb and incoherent! We have a strong sense of ‘bro-ness’ with our fans!”

“RapThor” is now available in digital and CD on iTunesCD BabyBig Cartel.

Tracklist:

1. Troll Riding A Raptor (4:32)
2. Boobs And Bacon (3:30)
3. Scroll Of Lightning Bolt (4:55)
4. Black Witch Rises (5:27)
5. I Wish You Were Beer (2:05)
6. Strength Became The Storm (5:24)
7. Blood’s Shade (5:22)
8. Dragonthorn (9:34)
Album Length: 40:47

Shemonic Metal Anarcheon Posts New Video “Etherous Claws” and New EP is out now called “Stratusfear”!

Formed in 2015,  Anarcheon features vocalist Kaija Kinney, founder of Metalocalypstick Fest, the BC metal fest celebrating women in metal, along with guitarist Clayton Bach, bassist Sylvain Maltais and drummer Steve “Machine” Richardo (ex-Messiah, ex-Green Jellÿ).

With a band name playing off the word Anarchy, Anarcheon is more of a Frankenstein of their various influences with their powerhouse of shemonic screams, catchy riffs and energetic heavy bass leads. Stealing the hearts and souls of fans in the Vancouver area and beyond since their inception, the quartet recently unleashed their new EP “Stratusfear” this past October.

Their first music video “Etherous Claws” directed by Markham Samuels and produced by Whitelf  Films tells the story of  Anarcheon using the power of heavy metal to summon an ancient vampire from her slumber.

Statement of the vocalist Kaija Kinney about the music video and the new EP:

“This is our first music video so of course we are super stoked about it. We wanted to have a bit of a back story on the song in a more poetic way rather than literal. Our good friend with Whitelf Films did an amazing job getting our vision onto screen and looking sharp!

And for those checking out our EP, it’s basically a coming together of all four members. We had so much fun writing these songs. All four of us have very different music tastes so it was very interesting coming together with such chemistry and creating something that we were all stoked about. We are already gearing up for a full album!”

BEYOND CREATION by Simon Girard

Feel the onrush of sweeping arpeggios, crushing waves of fretless bass, complex rhythmical patterns and erupting scales peppered with jazzy feeling and masterful execution under the mark of ”Earthborn Evolution”, which names the sophomore full-length of Beyond Creation.

BEYOND CREATION by Anthony Dubois

The French part of Canada is home to a vibrant culture of technical Death Metal fostered by outstanding acts such as Gorguts, Cryptopsy, Martyr, and Neuraxis. This illustrious family tree has produced many sprouts in the past, yet none of them are as brilliant as Quebec’s new amazing scion: Beyond Creation! Founded in the Olympic city of Montreal in the year 2005, the band worked hard to gain technical expertise before putting out their only demo in 2010.

The immediate buzz resonated within and beyond technical Death Metal circles and was followed up by a self-release of “The Aura” (2011), which was re-issued by Season of Mist in 2013. With their debut album, Beyond Creation delivered a ferocious blend of technicality, melody, and brutality aided by fang-filled growls, which was interwoven with beautiful progressive interludes. Yet this was just the beginning as ”Earthborn Evolution” proves beyond doubt. Their next step now catapults the Canadians into the top league of their genre, right among such giants as Atheist, Death or early Cynic. Prepare for the lightning evolution of the progressive technical death metal revolution!

Jonathan Hayward-Dark Messiah

Interview with Jonathan Hayward guitarist of groove thrash metal band Dark Messiah about how was the band formed, about metal music, their first EP ”Dark Messiah”, their music video ”No Soul To Sell” and many more info down below:

Image may contain: one or more people, people on stage, people playing musical instruments, night, concert and indoor

1.How was the band formed, and why did you start playing metal music in general?

I started playing metal music as a teenager. As soon as I started hearing it I felt an urge to be a part of something so spectacular. So I picked up a guitar and started developing my style early on. I worked in a local metal bar and saw bands perform every weekend. I thought it would be great to have a band of my own to play on stage and music to share with the world. A few years passed and I decided it was time to start putting something together. The band started around August, 2015. I grew an online network of local musicians and started looking for people to jam with. Once we had enough members and a few songs under our belt we started playing shows right away. Then we came up with some more songs and just never stopped writing and performing.

2. Tell me something about you debut EP ”Dark Messiah”, about the reactions to it and the lyrics of the songs?

The lyrics are pretty gloomy and sometimes a bit twisted but that’s what you should expect out of metal isn’t it? A lot of the songs speak of what we think would happen if a “Dark Messiah” existed on this earth. Sort of a fictional tale if you think of it that way. With a subject matter like that and a genre of metal that doesn’t usually go there reactions are never really in the middle. People seem to either love it or hate it.

3.Name Top 10 metal bands in your opinion?

In my opinion and no particular order:

10. Testament

9. Slayer

8. Metallica

7. Pantera

6. Anthrax

5. Slipknot

4. Lamb of God

3. Kreator

2. Overkill

1. Black Sabbath

4.If you could have a chance to change something in metal music, what it would be?

I wouldn’t want to change anything cause I’d hate to effect what metal has become, but if I have to choose something it would probably be the death of Dimebag Darrell.

5. In your opinion, which song is the best from your debut EP, and which one fans liked and reacted to most?

I don’t like to pick favourites with our own songs but the 2 that people react to the most often are “No Soul To Sell” and “Death From Above.”

Image may contain: 1 person, on stage, night and indoor

6. Which gig that you played is the best one, in your opinion?

One of my favourite gigs is when we opened for Wednesday 13 at a local venue called The Pyramid.

7. Your latest music video for ”No Soul To Sell” is just amazing, tell me the true meaning of the song?

The song is about someone trying to sell his soul to the devil in exchange for something but he eventually realizes that the devil has tricked him and he has no soul to sell.

8. Which band is your role model, if you have any?

There are a lot of bands I’ve been influenced by or looked up to for most of my life. Pantera and Metallica are probably on the top of that list.

9. Are you planning to go on a tour?

We got back from a tour of Western Canada about a month and a half ago. Once we have new music we’ll most likely hit the rest of the country.

10. Do you have a plan to record a new album,do you have a massage for your fans?

We’re currently writing new songs for a full length album. We are really looking forward to that. We just want our fans to know that we appreciate all their support and that we’ll be back hitting familiar places and playing new ones soon enough.

Archspire stream of entire new album ”Relentless Mutation” is available for free!

Archspire are unveiling their complete new album, ”Relentless Mutation”, which has been scheduled for release on September 22nd.

The band stated this about the album:

“Relentless Mutation is out now! This album is a collaboration between ourselves and producer Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation) and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out, the response has been overwhelming. Pick up a copy, stream it, check out a live show, buy a shirt, however you want to support us, but most importantly: Stay Tech!”

Archspire have previously released the artwork of ”Relentless Mutation”, which has been created by renowned artist Eliran Kantor and can be viewed together with the track-list below.

Track list:

1. Involuntary Doppelgänger (3:46)
2. Human Murmuration (4:13)
3. Remote Tumour Seeker (4:01)
4. Relentless Mutation (4:35)
5. The Mimic Well (4:05)
6. Calamus Will Animate (3:50)
7. A Dark Horizontal (6:10)

ARCHSPIRE by Alex Morgan

Welcome to first class technical death metal madness. Machinegun vocals rattle remorselessly over a furious flurry of arpeggios, scales, and everything else that the two string wizards of Archspire can pick at break-finger speed out their guitars. If this sounds hardly human at the level of technical execution, the Gatling-style hyper-drumming pushing these monstrous compositions forward is adding to the alien impression. It cannot even be a question that the Canadians have outdone themselves with their third full-length, ”Relentless Mutation”.

This album is simply insane in a most excellent way. The level of musicianship that Archspire offer, will leave even tech death fans drooling. Yet the outfit from Vancouver in British Columbia is bringing an important extra to the table, the rare ability to write great songs. ”Relentless Mutation” is not just another compilation of outstanding musicianship, but the songs come with recognisable patterns that make sense in the greater conceptual framework of the album. And a clever use of contrasts leaves moments of clarity for the listener to take a breath and get ready for the next assault.

Archspire exploded onto the scene in the year 2009 – after an earlier prelude under the moniker Defenestrated. The band grew out of the rich Canadian scene for technical extremes that includes illustrious names such as Gorguts or Beyond Creation. Yet  Archspire  set out to take the sound to the next level from the start as their debut album ”All Shall Align” (2011) made clear, which immediately received critical comparison with the scene’s spearheads like Obscura.

The band developed a lyrical concept revolving around a dystopian science fiction universe, which was expanded on their sophomore full-length, ”The Lucid Collective” (2014) that witnessed Archspire gaining widespread international recognition as one of the hottest names within the tech death community and beyond.

With ‘Relentless Mutation’, the Canadians are pushing the limits of their genre even further than before on all levels. Archspire come crushing like a whirlwind to free ears and minds from pre-conceived notions about technical death metal. Time to leave your shelter and face the tempest. This is the future.

The cover of ”Relentless Mutation” has been painted by renowned artist Eliran Kantor already well-known in the metal world for his works for TestamentAtheist, and Hate Eternal among others.

Archspire released new crushing song from their upcoming album ”Relentless Mutation” called ”Human Murmuration”!

Archspire are premiering the third mind-blowing new track taken from their forthcoming album ”Relentless Mutation”, which has been scheduled for release on September 22nd via Season of Mist Records!

The band stated this about the song:

“Human Murmuration” is the second track off our upcoming release ‘Relentless Mutation’, and also the second song we wrote for the album. This spacy, sometimes ethereal jam comes with some pretty groove-heavy parts to balance things out. It was one of those songs that took a long time to put together, but once we were in studio listening to the final version, it became clear that this song had something different. We are looking forward to sharing the full album with you on September 22nd through Season Of Mist! Stay Tech!”

Insurrection announce tour dates for ”Extraction Tour” , new details of the album “Extraction” are revealed, and it’s going to be out in Oct 6th!

Assembled in 2003 to infiltrate, build and destroy, Gatineau, QC’s Insurre is an aural onslaught assaulting witnesses in both languages of French and English. Known for blending calculated technicality with a signature mixture of merciless death metal, the band has emerged to be one of the most prominent Eastern Canadian metal bands.

Annihilating the masses with their three previous full lengths “Prototype” (2013), “Fracture” (2010) and “Prologue” (2009), Insurrection is ready to once again push their metal to blasphemous levels with their next release “Extraction“. A ten track aberration, ready to shock and blast fans to the next life. The album is produced by Pierre Rémillard at Wild Studio (Cryptopsy, Obliveon, Anonymus, Voivod, Krisiun, Ghoulunatics, Despised Icon, Beneath the Massacre, Gorguts, Martyr, etc) and features guest vocals from Bruno Bernier (Obliveon) on “Data Extracted … End Transmission”. Slated for release on October 6, 2017 via Galy Records, the band is revealing to fans the artwork and track listing.

“I think I speak for the others guys in the band when I say all this news is more than exciting. This tour we’re embarking on is all about meeting up with the fans who supported us in the past and present.
