Once again building upon their signature sound, the follow up to 2014’s ”Where Greater Men Have Fallen” is a more raw, “old school sounding” record than its predecessor. Hitting home with what vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga describes as “a direct energy” and wielding an urgency that is undeniable, the Irish quintet once again effortlessly blend elements of tragedy and might like no one else. Likewise, the evolution in their sound continues to be organic and unforced, ensuring that ‘Exile Amongst The Ruins‘ is essential listening for both their long-term faithful and those only now drawn into their world.

Statement of the Vocalist  A.A. Nemtheanga about the album’s first song, ”Stolen Years”:

Stolen Years” may seem like a strange choice as our lead single, and on the face of if I guess it is. It’s not a blood and thunder epic about tragedy and might and the ruin of nations, nor is it 9 minute epistle of doom. Have no fear, the album does contain those also but to open this time we chose something different. This album has some surprises and this is one of them, a short and painfully simple song which almost didn’t make the final cut if you can believe so. The video, cut by Costin Chioreanu, is about the journey involved in finally getting to that moment where you walk on stage, the song itself about that last night on earth that comes to us all, sometimes we never know when that might be, hold your loved ones tight tonight, this could be it…

 Tracklist:
1. Nail Their Tongues
2. To Hell or the Hangman
3. Where Lie the Gods
4. Exile Amongst the Ruins
5. Upon Our Spiritual Deathbed
6. Stolen Years
7. Sunken Lungs
8. Last Call

You can’t talk about the true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal without reverent mention of Ensiferum, and with ”Two Paths” they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, ”Two Paths‘ is simultaneously the Finnish quintet’s most epic and far-reaching collection and their most organic, which definitely sets it apart from the pack. Additionally, the album literally takes the concept of ”Two Paths” to heart, with two different versions of standout tracks ”Don’t You Say” and ”God Is Dead”.

Statment of the bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka of the band:

Even though Ensiferum has always had clean vocals and choirs, harsh vocals have been the main style, and those songs worked so well with both styles that we decided to include both versions,

Sami Hinkka. with Mikko P. Mustonen are again handling orchestral arrangements and Lassi Logren returning to play nyckelharpa and violin on a few songs, Hinkka is also more than happy that they brought “more bombastic orchestral and down to earth folk aspects” to the record, further fleshing out their vision. This also applies to the contribution of Gyula Havancsak, who provided the artwork for both ”Two Paths”and its predecessor ”One Man Army”.

Statment about the artist who worked on their cover for the album:

It was really nice to work with him again because he always wants to hear our ideas and then he adds his own magic and improvements to them, and the result is always astonishing.

Ensiferum released their new album ”Two Paths” in September of 2017 via Metal Blade Records, for their efforts, the band has entered the worldwide charts, e.g. # 4 in Finland, # 9 in Germany, # 18 in Switzerland, # 35 in Canada and # 160 in the USA.

Out Now! Quebec City Folk Metal Nordheim Unleash “RapThor”, an album about bacon and dinosaurs!

Nordheim‘s philosophy is a simple one, to make fun folk metal, which is evident in their previous releases “Refill” (2013), “Lost In The North” (2010) plus being Wacken Metal Battle Canada finalists in 2015. Returning in 2017, this quartet of dungeon and dragons enthusiasts are unleashing their latest offering “RapThor”, now available as of November 24th. Influenced by bands such as Finntroll, Ensiferum, Kalmah and Wintersun, Nordheim ‘s third studio album is eight tracks dedicated to the epic flavor of bacon, the colossus power of dinosaurs and more with such titles as “Troll Riding A Raptor”, “Boobs And Bacon” and “Dragonthorn”.

Vocalist/guitarist Warraxe stated this about their album:

“We want to give the fans one of the heaviest and nastiest folk metal albums to date with ‘RapThor’. It is different from our first two. We had great feedback when we played the songs live. This album is the heaviest of them all while cutting back on the European folklore influences. It’s the result of our hard work over the last few years. It is super-heavy party music!”

As the Quebec City band plans show dates for 2018, they wants fans to really know their sense of fun.

The statement about their shows and the atmosphere on them:

“When we play live it’s a frickin’ party! We move a lot, scream, hump the air, we drink from the fans’ beer bottles and in turn, we feed them beer, with the help of our friends and roadies coming up on stage and pouring beer in their faces. Usually between songs I’ll be making jokes about anything I can think of, as long as it’s dumb and incoherent! We have a strong sense of ‘bro-ness’ with our fans!”

“RapThor” is now available in digital and CD on iTunesCD BabyBig Cartel.

Tracklist:

1. Troll Riding A Raptor (4:32)
2. Boobs And Bacon (3:30)
3. Scroll Of Lightning Bolt (4:55)
4. Black Witch Rises (5:27)
5. I Wish You Were Beer (2:05)
6. Strength Became The Storm (5:24)
7. Blood’s Shade (5:22)
8. Dragonthorn (9:34)
Album Length: 40:47

Arkona released teaser for the upcoming album ”Khram”!

Russia’s leading and finest pagan metal band Arkona, who are set to release their brand new album ”Khram” on January 19th, 2018 with Napalm Records, have just unveiled a first teaser and exclusive album preview! Get your ears on this first sneak peak, featuring all tracks from Arkona‘s upcoming album right HERE!

Khram, the Russian word for temple, is shrouded in natural mysticism slumbering behind nocturnal treetops, yet open to everyone. The sincerity and depth that binds all five band members together resonate in the sumptuously dark cover artwork and frontlady Masha`s lyrics, that are written in her own blood (which is also part of the artwork)! Arkona may have used sound samples in their early days, but nowadays cellos, brass parts, wind instruments and throat singing are recorded live meticulously and flow naturally into the band’s harsh metal tunes:
King-sized songs effortlessly shift from blackened pagan metal masterpieces to epic tracks with crystal-clear melodies and piano infusions. So better mark your calendars for January 19th, 2018, as Arkonas ”Khram” is an exuberant and demanding affair that defies genre boundaries with untamable spirit!

Coming as CD Digi Pack, Digital Download and LP Gatefold editions,”Khram is now available to pre-order HERE!

Statment of the bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka about the band:

Track list:

1. Ajattomasta Unesta
2. For Those About to Fight for Metal
3. Way of the Warrior
4. Two Paths
5. King of Storms
6. Feast with Valkyries
7. Don’t You Say

9. God Is Dead

On September 15th, Ensiferum will release their seventh full-length, ”Two Paths”, worldwide via Metal Blade Records. Produced by Anssi Kippo, the master was recorded on tape, for a true analog experience.

Statment of the band about the song:

Hi folks! So here it is, our brand new video of the song ”Way Of The Warrior”. Like our music combines metal and folk elements so does this video. It was really great to be involved in the process more than we ever have been before and the result turned out to be fantastic! We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording the song and shooting the video. So turn the volume up to eleven, move your furniture a bit so that you have room for moshing and press play!
